Rateče is the perfect starting point for a variety of outdoor activities. Cyclists, hikers, and cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails and paths to explore. Mountaineers can head into the Julian Alps, where stunning peaks and unforgettable views await.

The village of Rateče lies on a plateau at the tripoint of Slovenia, Austria, and Italy, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Julian Alps to the south and the Karavanke mountains to the north. From Rateče, two alpine valleys branch out, offering even more opportunities for exploration:

• Planica, which ends in Tamar beneath the Jalovec mountain, where the first spring of the Sava Dolinka River emerges, creating the Nadiža waterfall.
• The valley leading to Planina Za Jezerom, which leads to Mangart's alpine pasture and ends beneath the northern face of Mangart.

At the start of the Planica valley, you'll find the famous ski jumps, where ski flying competitions began. From Rateče, mountaineers can ascend to the high peaks of Mojstrovke, Jalovec, Ponc, and Mangart, while hikers can reach the Sovška mountain pasture (the tripoint) with breathtaking views.
